Travel tips
Georgia is in the Eastern Time zone, which is five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-5). The state enjoys a range of seasons. The mild temperatures in spring and autumn make enjoying the outdoors easy. Summer can get quite hot, with temperatures above 32° C (90° F). Winter varies considerably across the state. There may be snow in the northern mountains, while temperatures along the southern coast remain mild.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world. It serves 150 U.S. destinations (Atlanta is within a two-hour flight of 80% of the U.S. population) and more than 75 international destinations in 50 countries. Consider taking a MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) train to and from the airport’s domestic baggage reclaim area for easy access to Atlanta’s most popular attractions. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is another key Georgia airport. Other airports around the state may also be used for connecting flights. Georgia has five major interstate highways, which can also get you to your intended destination within the state, or neighboring states. People drive on the right-hand side of the road, and U.S. law requires seat belts must always be fastened.  In order to drive or hire a car, you must have a driving license from your home country. Most car rental companies require people hiring cars to be over the age of 25. If a traveler’s driving license from their home country is not in English, he or she must obtain an international driving permit in English from their home country before departing for Georgia. You must be 18 years or older to purchase tobacco products, and it is illegal to smoke in most public places. You Must be 21 or older to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Particularly in major cities and with large groups, make your accommodation reservations before arriving. Most Americans schedule family vacations between the months of May and August, so it may be more challenging to find available hotel accommodations during that time.
